A legendary Australian red
2005 Penfolds, Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz, Barossa Valley, South Australia (£68.34 per case of six bottles – £11.39 per bottle –

Hold onto your hats gentlemen (ladies grasp your bonnets)! Bin 28 is nothing short of a legend in Australia and I am so obsessed with these Kalimna vineyards, in this wild outback of the Barossa Valley, that I drove all of the way down there from Adelaide one day just to have a look!
Forming the backbone of hundreds of imperial Aussie Shirazes (Penfolds' very own Grange takes a slug of fruit from here every year), these ancient vines are home to some of the most revered red grapes on the planet. 2005 is a superb vintage (and the '06 that follows is a cracker, too).
If you punt a case from the online arm of the UK's biggest grocer, the price is unbelievably low – there is £20 worth of joy at least in every bottle. So dive in, order a boot-full, open a bottle asap and wallow in its glory and then watch it mature for a decade with incredible results.
Wines like this have put Australia at the top of the world for value for money and yet in sheer taste terms, this is one of the finest reds you'll find at any price.
