Harley's iconic classic gets a makeover
There's no denying the appeal of a Harley Davidson, says Geoff Hill in The Sunday Times.
This particular model, the Softail Fat Boy, "shot to fame not long after it became Arnold Schwarzenegger’s stolen mount of choice" in Terminator II. "Ever since then, it's been difficult to ride it without imagining yourself hauling out a shotgun and blasting passing Volvos off the road."
Harley's new version of the classic bike is, sensibly, much the same as the old. It's basically just bumped up the engine size and added more chrome.
The result is a bike that still "looks fabulous" and is as happy pottering along as it is overtaking. A perfect bike for touring curvy A roads and having "endless hours of fun swinging through roundabouts and tight corners".
This is the iconic model in the Softail family of Harleys, says Topspeed.com. And buying one is "all about the pure pleasure of admiring your ride long after you've stopped the engine. It's not so much a bike as a "rolling work of art".
