As British Gas and EDF Energy announce a forthcoming hike in gas and electricity prices, stay snug without being out of pocket by switching your supplier, says Naomi Caine.

Millions of householders are bracing themselves for higher energy bills following announcements by British Gas and EDF Energy that they are raising gas and electricity prices by up to 20%, says Paul Farrow in The Sunday Telegraph.

British Gas is still the most popular energy supplier with about 17m customers, but you have to wonder why. It typically charges about 20% more than its rivals, writes Jessica Bown in The Sunday Times.

Gas customers can save up to £171 a year by changing supplier, according to figures from Energywatch. Electricity customers can cut their bills by up to £122. Try Energyhelpline.com, Simplyswitch.com, Uswitch.com, or the Energyshop.com to find the best deal.
