Peter Hickson, Chairman of Chemring, the military equipment maker, has treated himself to £94,475-worth of shares in the firm.

Hickson, who joined the group in mid-2011, bought up 25,000 shares at 377.9p each.

On January 24th the company reported a rise in both revenues and profits during 2011 despite cutbacks in defence spending in its biggest markets.

However, a statement from FinnCap last week suggested the results were somewhat lower than its forecasts and also below the market's estimates. The broker also said that the statement included a "fairly lacklustre outlook" regarding NATO spending.

Speaking at the time, Hickson said: "The continuing problems of the Eurozone and the impact of possible sequestration in the US indicate that our traditional markets will not be any easier this year."

The firm has lost over 40% on its share price over the past year, but gained 1.53% to 385.7p by 16:27 today.
