Shares in Ukrainian farmer Landkom were a rare bright feature on Thursday after the company said new chief executive Vitaliy Skotsyk had made a significant number of improvements at the company.
The company said its Autumn planting has been successfully completed, with the 16,500 hectares of oil seed rape (OSR) planted representing a 13% increase on 2008 levels.
Around 5,500 hectares of winter wheat have also been planted in Western Ukraine while in the Crimea around 2,500 hectares of low input non-irrigated crops have been planted.
The company said around 10,000 hectares of land have been prepared for Spring planting. The company intends to plant a roughly equal mix of maize and soyabean in Western Ukraine, and irrigated sunflower in the Crimea.
With the addition of the Spring planting campaign, total harvest for 2010 will total at least 34,000 hectares, an increase of around 17% on 2009.
'With the successful placing, autumn planting completed and land prepared for next Spring's planting campaign, we are well positioned for the next year,' said Skotsyk.
