Mortgage lending slips from highs
Mortgage lending growth slipped back in January, according to the latest official report though the value of loan approvals has picked up.
The British Bankers' Association said mortgage lending growth eased in January with underlying mortgage lending totalling £4.6bn in January, down from £5.3bn the month before.
The BBA also found that credit card lending hit a slow patch in January - with lending up by £111m, just half of the £223m figure achieved in December.

A separate report from the Building Societies Association said the value of mortgage approvals - loans agreed but not yet made - climbed to their highest in more than two years at £4.32bn in January.
A third report from the Council of Mortgage Lenders found that gross mortgage lending totalled £23bn in January - the highest figure for that month on record and nearly one third higher than the £17.4bn a year earlier.
However the CML report also marks a slowdown, coming some 14% below the £26.91bn lending figure in December.
