In-line sales keep Axis-Shield positive

Revenues have been as expected at Axis-Shield during the first 13 weeks of the financial year, leaving the diagnostics kit specialist "very positive" about the outlook.

It said sales of diabetes testing equipment Afinion and its NycoCard readers are progressing well and its installed base of Afinion instruments is increasing in line with forecasts.

It added that the failure of its patent infringement action against a Californian firm selling non-licensed homocysteine kits is unlikely to have any significant impact on 2008 revenues.

Axis said it will proceed with its case against one of the distributors of the company concerned in Europe, where its patent claims are broader.

"The outlook for Axis-Shield remains very positive as the commercialisation of the products developed by our R&D efforts gains pace," said the Dundee-based outfit.

"We look forward to reporting further progress at the half year."
