Aer Lingus saw total passenger numbers rise 4.2% in April, but the Irish low-cost airline confirmed that its planes were less full.
The group carried 852,000 passengers last month compared to 818,000 in April 2007. The rise includes a 4.6% increase in passenger numbers on short haul and a 1.0% increase on long haul flights.

Aer Lingus' total load factor fell to 70.5% from 81.2%, however this was in the context of a 19.8% increase in capacity on April 2007.
This capacity increase reflects the continuing effects of the introduction of two new long haul aircraft and the commencement of three new routes under Open Skies, the group said.
