TechMARK movers: Optos and SkyePharma aim higher
Retinal testing specialist Optos was one of today's risers. The group said this morning that its P200 device has supported a team of scientists in a clinical trial where gene therapy has been used to restore vision in three young adults with a rare form of congenital blindness.
Although the patients have not achieved normal eyesight the preliminary results have set the stage for further studies, the group added.
Subjects in the study had a form of retinal degeneration known as Leber Congenital Amaurosis which causes blindness by damaging the retina so it can no longer process light.
Pharmaceutical firm SkyePharma was also doing well. The group announced yesterday that its Phase III efficacy study evaluating Flutiform for the treatment of asthma in adolescent and adult patients met its primary endpoints.
This is the first of several clinical efficacy studies being carried out in preparation for regulatory filing, SkyePharma said.
