Sector movers: Financials doing well
Nearly all the sectors are performing well with General Financials amongst the top risers.
Volatility on global markets has fed through into London Stock Exchange's third quarter figures with pro-forma revenues up by 15% and the flow of new issues holding up, though the exchange expects a tougher time for IPOs this quarter.
Interdealer broker ICAP said trading since September 2007 has been strong and pre-tax profit before exceptionals for the year is likely to be above current analysts' forecasts.
Even private equity firm 3i did well despite saying realisations have slowed since the first quarter of the financial year, reflecting the underlying maturity of the portfolio but also less certain conditions in some markets.
Life insurers also gained with Prudential and Aviva among the top ten risers as rumours of bid from China refuse to die down.
Construction & Materials was the only sector to post losses, with Kier the biggest faller in the sector.
