Bramall keeps buying Lookers shares
Shares in car dealer Lookers have slumped by 40% since November in sympathy with a profit warning from rival Pendragon and worries about how car sales will stand up if consumer spending wanes.
The fall has prompted steady and heavy buying from non -executive Tony Bramall. Today's purchase is his sixth sizeable buy in little more than five weeks. Other directors have been buying as well, but Bramall has been the most active.
Compared with most of his recent purchases the latest buy, of 30,000 shares at 104p, is small, but it takes his total stake up to 35.36m shares in total or 19.52% of the company overall.
Bramall, an industry veteran, joined Lookers' board in June 2006 after buying a 24.4% stake from GE Capital, which he used to block a bid for Lookers from Pendragon. In March 2007, he reduced that stake to 18.8% with the sale of 10m shares at 208p.
